Rhythms for Two

Rhythms for Two is a music program for two-year-olds and their parents or caregivers. It meets once a week for forty-five minutes.

The program, based on the fundamentals of Dalcroze Eurhythmics, invites children to experience the elements of music through their voices and bodies. The class includes movement, singing, and the use of simple percussion instruments. Parents or caregivers are active participants with their children during the class. The instructor is trained and certified in the Dalcroze method.- top -

The Afternoon Clubs

The Afternoon Clubs offer short afternoon programs in Music and Art or Drama and Art for children ages 4 and 5. The clubs include time for lunch and meet once a week from 12:15 until 2:15.

The Afternoon Clubs provide an opportunity for preschool children to experience a communal lunch and extended play beyond the traditional nursery school morning. The clubs begin with a packed lunch, which is followed by free play time and organized activities focused on music, art, or drama. The two-hour afternoon concludes with a period of outdoor free play.- top -

The Music & Art Club

This club meets one afternoon a week and provides children with an opportunity to further explore the worlds of music and art. Music activities include the same Dalcroze Eurhythmics method used in the Nursery School program. The children listen to music and respond to its different qualities through movement. While much of Eurhythmics is related to rhythm, the children also explore tempo, phrasing, pitch, and dynamics, as well as sing and use simple rhythm instruments.Art activities allow each child to find his/her own creative expression in several media. The children use clay, wood, a number of different painting materials, paper maché, and collage, either separately or in combination. They can work independently on a project over a long period of time, or can choose to take a break from one project in order to work on something new.- top -

The Drama & Art Club

This club meets one afternoon a week and gives children an opportunity to explore the world of drama by adapting stories from favorite picture books into plays. The children listen to a story and are given an opportunity to discuss the action and describe the characters. They then choose their favorite character to play and sometimes one, or more than one, child might play a given part. The focus of the program is to explore plays and acting within a fun and supportive environment, and every effort is made to give the children the opportunity to play a variety of roles of their choice. The art activities relate to the story and its characters and include simple set decoration and the making of props. These are then used during the performance towards the end of the afternoon.- top -
